Sterling was originally platted in 1881, some 10+ years after the first white settlers began arriving to the area. Incorporated in 1884, it has never looked back.
As the biggest little city in northeast Colorado, it is the hub of six major highway intersections, Sterling offers the best of rural American living, while boasting quite a few of the urban perks minus congestion.
There are over 14 buildings/homes in Sterling listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings with a variety of architectural stylings and quaint charm. Several buildings are currently being restored or are still in use today. The Overland Trail Museum is home to a vast display of artifacts, the largest collection in all of northeast Colorado, and offers special collection displays as well. While proud of our past and working to preserve our heritage, Sterlingites also recognize the importance of industry and modernization. Its economic roots are deeply connected to agricultural. However, its citizens are committed to stable growth and actively recruit new industry and retail businesses into the area. |
