Welcome to Cokedale, an example of a coal miner’s camp of by gone days. Nestled in Reilly Canyon on the Scenic Highway of Legends, Cokedale remains the most significant example of an intact coal camp in Colorado.
Cokedale is named after the rows of nearby coke ovens left over from the coal and coke mining days. It was a thriving community with two mines in town, and a third mine nine miles up the canyon in Bon Carbo with 350 coke ovens in operation. As you walk through town, you can view the historical structures which keep the town clearly and visually alive.
Take a step back in time. We hope you enjoy looking into yesteryear and please come again. |
