Evergreen, nestled into the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of about 7,200 feet, rests in the shadow of Mount Evans, elevation 14,260 feet, but only 30 minutes from the cultural center of Downtown Denver. It is the melding of the best of both worlds, a quiet get away truly hidden in the Colorado Mountains but within reach of the Mile-High City and all it has to offer.
A drive from I-70 takes the traveler through Bergen Park, a retail and residential section of Evergreen, takes you to the lake where there is myriad activity in full swing between ice-skating in winter, and non-motorized boating in the summer. The 1.5 mile walking path that circles the lake is in daily use as fresh air lovers take advantage of the over 300 days of sunny weather each year. Nearby open space offers more challenging trails for walking, hiking and biking from May through October, and snowshoeing throughout the winter months, and the public golf course provides a high altitude challenge to golfers of every ability.
A visit to Downtown Evergreen will find you wandering down the boardwalk of Main Street through art galleries and unique shops to please the discriminating buyer, as well as eateries, coffee shops and a winery, with the means for suiting every palette. Artisans from around the country show their wares in the art savvy community, along side award winning local talent. The visual arts are only part of the cultural flavor of Evergreen as the Chorale, Mountain Bell Ringers, Chamber Orchestra, Players, Children’s Chorale and the now famous Jazz Festival bring music and drama to the mountains every month of the year. Weekends fill the streets with live music as bands and acoustical groups perform in the eating and drinking establishments and at outdoor concerts.
Evergreen offers a unique Colorado Mountain experience that is hard to find elsewhere. The limitless access to outdoor recreation, the arts, shopping and dining, and the mountain setting are only part of Evergreen’s vast appeal. It is the residents of Evergreen who are the true treasure of the area. The people who live here and run businesses, raising their families, putting their roots down, are what make Evergreen more than just a pass through, day trip excursion. Once you have been here you’ll want to come back and when you do, you’ll want to stay. |
