The Town of Elizabeth has been in existence as a small, stable community since the late 1890’s. Located in the western portion of Elbert County, Elizabeth is approximately 45 miles southeast of Denver.
Elizabeth has been recognized as Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The primary transportation access to the Town is Highway 86 which runs in an east/west direction.
The Town of Elizabeth is best described as a community that cherishes its small town atmosphere. Community character is all about the people that live in the Elizabeth area as well as the physical attributes of place.
The Town has everything that makes for a great small town: diversity, strong values, quality of life and opportunity. There is a strong sense of community in Elizabeth. This is characterized by friendly people, knowing your neighbor as well as the owners of small family owned shops, and a sense of belonging and ability to easily interact with Town Government, the Chamber of Commerce and area Home Owner’s Associations.
Currently the Town has estimated population of 1,400. Elizabeth has found itself becoming a “bedroom” community rather than one composed of rural, agricultural workers. However, the small town atmosphere of Elizabeth still prevails. This is evident by the popular community activities such as ElizaBash, the Elizabeth Stampede, the Harvest Festival, the Holiday Festival, as well as many other community events.
