Montrose is located in the center of the Uncompahgre Valley on the Western Slope of the Continental Divide. The Colorado Rockies lie directly east.
The spires of the San Juan Mountains sparkle just 35 miles south, and the largest flat-top mountain in the world looms 40 miles to the north, while the world-renowned hunting grounds of the Uncompahgre Plateau frame the western sunset.
Montrose is situated at an elevation of 5,794 ft. above sea level. It has mild summers and winters with minimal snow accumulation in the area of the city, making it a four-season playground.
