The town of Crawford is famous for being a “Cow Town.” The hitching racks are gone but we still see cattle drives, with real cowboys on horseback, driving their cattle through town both spring and fall, just like in the “Old West!” The West Elk Scenic & Historic Byway runs through Crawford via Hwy. 92.

Crawford State Park / Reservoir is available for camping, boating and fishing. U.S. Forest Service access roads take you into the West Elk Mountain range for hunting and fishing. Crawford is the gateway to the North Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, which is 15 miles south of town. The North Fork Trails Network, for your hiking enjoyment, serves areas east and north of town. Many skiing and snowboarding areas are available within a 100 mile radius.

Crawford is a small community with limited services, but they do have two restaurants, gift shops, an antique store, thrift shop, liquor store, gas station, combination sporting goods/laundromat/motel/general store, historic bed and breakfast, beauty shop, greenhouse nursery, library and bank.
